#sEATtle; The Walrus and Carpenter

I like to eat. A lot. Food is bae. Therefore, I figured I would post reviews of the places I go to give you a little insight and maybe some ideas on where you might want to nom with your friends or special someones. Plus, it gives me an excuse to pig out on Seattle's best eats and not feel bad about it, because work!

Before we start though, I want to make one thing perfectly clear, I am NOT a professional food nerd, nor do I want to be. I dont know the intricacies of French cooking. Heck, I dont even know how to spell "intricacies." It also means that if you ask me what the best burger is, I'll probably say Lil Woody's before I suggest any kind of "gourmet" burger, unless that gourmet burger has an egg on it. Then gourmet burger wins (any burger with an egg on it wins really.) Also, my idea of a fancy pizza is anything with more than two toppings. Basically what I'm getting at is consider these restaurant reviews for the comman man/woman.

Im a fan of big, bold flavors. Give me red meat over chicken, put siracha on everything, and OF COURSE I want extra salsa, why would you even ask?  I don't like foods with "hints" of anything either. If that flavor isn't important enough to be easily noticed, then what's the point?

That said, ever since I've been doing these restaurant reviews, I've been changing. See, here in the PNW we have a lot of amazing locally-sourced food and the more I eat, the more I realize all those years of being served foods swimming in sauce or encased in salt and pepper weren't to make the food taste better, but to mask the crap quality of whatever protein or vegetable I was eating. How did The Walrus and Carptenter sit with the new me? Let's find out! 

EATS

Oysters!: I promise one of these times I'll remember to write down exactly what ones I got, but for today all I can say was I got four types, all local, and if I wasn't with company I would have eaten every goddam one of these delicious little slimeballs.

Pork Rillettes: This is basically paté made with pork.  I know, mouth-watering. I wish it was a little softer and more easily spreadable, but the taste was amazing. 

Copper River Salmon Crudo:  If last season of Top Chef taught us anything, its that ERRYONE is doing crudos these days.  Here's the thing though - I challenge anyone to find a better one than this. Earlier I was joking about how I prefer big bold flavors, but let me tell you, there is a subtlety to this dish that absolutely takes it to the next level. One of my favorite bites of food this year without question. You NEED this in your life. 

Fried Oysters: For as much as I LOVE raw oysters, I'm generally not the biggest fan of the fried version, but these were pretty delicious if you are in to that sort of thing. 

Steamed clams with chorizo: The menu said it came with sea beans, but I'm pretty sure ours was with potatoes, which is great, because chorizo+potato is everything. You can get this dish at a million places here in town, and for good reason. Not the star of the meal, but definitely worth smashing.

Grilled Octopus: You know how much I love octopus by now right? Next to Chop Shop, this might just be my new favorite in the city.  Again, the trick is to keep it tender and not too charred.  Boom and Boom. This place nailed it. 

Final Verdict: I don't know what else to say other than this meal was so good that writing this and looking at the pics has me starving and counting down the days until I go back for more. Having quality local ingredients is one thing, being able to craft them into perfect little plates of yum is another. The Walrus and the Carpenter is quite simply a must-visit restauarant in Seattle. Next time you hit up a show at the Tractor, get to Ballard early. 

GO HERE IF....You are looking for locally harvested foods prepared incredibly well, including oysters. 

DON'T GO HERE IF...You are really hungry. The food is amazing, but its all small plates and there isnt really that one belly filler item on the menu.
