The Alternative Valentine's Day Playlist
Well its Valentine's Day again, and this year instead of having to suffer some crappy pop love songs, try yelling at Alexa to play one of these to set the mood....unless your girlfriend is named Alexa, then definitely do NOT do that.
Meg Myers - Lemon Eyes: OF COURSE bae makes my list! For that special someone that you love and will also quite possibly murder, I think?
Lyric that belongs in a Valentine's Day card: "All your worries such a waste of time. You can't even see how much you're mine."
Oasis - Wonderwall: Home Run.
Lyric that belongs in a Valentine's Day card: "I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now." I mean, boom.
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes - Home: I've actually tested this song out, with great success. Not so much a "let's make out" song as much as its a "let's hold hands and live forever" song.
Lyric that belongs in a Valetine's Day card: "While you were sitting in the back seat smoking a cigarette you thought was gonna be your last, I was falling deep, deeply in love with you, and I never told you 'til just now!"
Bush - Glycerine: If you are still holding on to the 90's, you know this song has to be on your playlist. Bonus points for the very good possibility that this song actually got Gwen Stefani to date Gavin Rossdale.
Lyric that belongs on a Valentine's Day card: "It must be your skin, I'm sinking in. It must be for real, because now I can feel."
Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine? A good love song doesn't have to always be sappy and slow, sometimes it can rock!
Lyric that belongs on a Valentine's Day card: "She's a silver lining, lone ranger riding through an open space in my mind when she's not right there beside me"
The 1975 - Robbers: This song AND video will hit you right in the feel spot. This is Matty at his absolutely whiniest and best.
Lyric that belongs on a Valentine's Day card: "When she's leaving your home she's begging you, stay, stay, stay, stay, stay"
Death Cab for Cutie - I Will Follow You Into the Dark: If you're going for that "you aren't even getting rid of me after you pass away" vibe, this song is a must!
Lyric that belongs on a Valentine's Day card: "No blinding light or tunnels, to gates of white, just our hands clasped so tight, waiting for the hint of a spark"
Coldplay - Yellow: Take away everything you may feel about the band now, and go back to Yellow. It's undeniably good.
Lyric that belongs on a Valentine's Day card: "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you"
Band of Horses - No One's Gonna Love You More Than I Do: One of those love songs that could be used at a wedding, or after eight cups of whiskey on a Friday night.
Lyric that belongs on a Valentine's Day card: "But no one's ever gonna love you more than I do"
Queens of the Stone Age - Make it Wit Chu: The #1 undisputed, perfect, sexiest, most perfect alternative song to put on a Valentine's Day playlist. It's not even close. In fact, you could probably just play this on repeat all night!
Lyric that belongs on a Valentine's Day card: "if I told you that I knew about the sun and the moon, I'd be untrue, The only thing I know for sure is what I wanna do, anytime, anywhere" (he's talking about sex, you guys!)
