5 food trucks to check out before Taco Truck Challenge

Prepare your belly with a few food truck practice rounds

May 2, 2016

Taco Truck Challenge is less than a week away which means we all need to start stretching our gut for all the tasties we are about to cram into our mouth holes. Not to mention the other stretching needed so we don't cramp up during the Fiesta 5k Ole! (do they make a banana taco?)

Here are our Top 5 food trucks to check out before Taco Truck Challenge on May 7 at Volunteer Park (along with the most-excellent Yelp reviews for each truck)!

5. El Gallito (1700 20th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122) - Do you know what's up?

Review (from R.F.): "Carne asada, enchilada and refried beans were delicious and authentic. I'm from California and had a hard time finding a great Mexican joint. This is the place if you know what's up!"

4. The People's Burger (922 Occidental Ave S, Seattle, WA 98134- Even if you don't go, you have to admit this manifesto is impressive...

Review (from Patrick M):

"Burger lovers of the World, Unite!! For far too long we have borne the brunt of capitalistic burgers, their paper-thin patties and tasteless buns spreading all over the world.    For far too long we have suffered though their imperialist burgers spreading their flavorless ways though the world, making their profits off the labor of the poor exploited cows toiling under their colonialist masters. No more I say! Fellow burger travelers, I come to you with news of a better way. The People's Burger, producing flavour filled burgers by the people and for the people. My 'shroom burger was full of juicy broiled mushrooms on a thick patty, with cheddar cheese on an honest bun. The fries were handcut and abundant. After I was finished, I was humbled by the results. Give thanks to Comrade Cow, for with their sacrifice of their milk, indeed their very flesh, they have given new life to the Glorious Motherland that is your digestive tract. So rise up! Cast forth the chains of your imperialist lackey burger kings, and demand your due as a productive worker!  Take to the streets, seek out The People's Burger's truck where you may find it, and rejoice!

¡Viva la revolución hamburguesa!!!"

3. People Of The Chubbs (2230 Lind Ave SW, Renton, WA 98057) - No, not this Chubbs. Winner for best name of a food truck of all time.

Review (from Austin C): "This spot is on another level. Crazy delicious! The carne Asada fries are crazy good as well as the flautas and the poutine bowl. The guys of Chubbs are cool and laid back making crazy good food. They update their location everyday on social media, so be sure to check that out! Glad I checked this place out!"

2. Taco Gol (2250 Occidental Ave S, Seattle, WA 98134) - A food truck worth stalking.

Review (from Alden C): "I just kind of stumbled upon their food truck that was outside Outer Planet Brewing. A friend was hungry and seemed to have gotten tired of all the walking so he ordered a taco here. After investigating their menu I saw that they had a Chile Relleno Burrito that sounded simply amazing so I  ordered that. It lived up to my expectations very nicely and gave me a good heat that I have longed for for a very, very long time! I believe they have a physical location which is very exciting but I could be mistaken. If not I am fully prepared to stalk their food truck all over the city. Yes, I liked my burrito that much!"

1. Taqueria La Fondita (9811 15th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98106) - Go here. Believe me, just do it.

Review (from Alex W): Absolutely WONDERFUL food!!! I visited after seeing all the glowing Yelp reviews, and was NOT let down. I had the taco plate special (three tacos, rice and beans), all adobada. Best adobada I've had in Seattle, hands down. And cheap!
