Today we get our first taste of Ben Gibbard's solo record, Former Lives in the shape of lead single, "Teardrop Windows". While unfamiliar to most, if those words ring familiar, the song itself dates back at least to 2010 when Ben debuted the track at a Teen Feed benefit at Seattle's Crocodile Cafe calling it, "a song about the Smith Tower, my favorite building in Seattle. i think it should be where a superhero sets up camp, and solves crime" (for fun it's worth noting this predates Phoenix Jones). Since then, the song got the full studio treatment during LA sessions w/ Aaron Espinoza alongside a number of other odds and ends cuts that never quite fit as DCFC records. Former Lives, Ben's first effort under his own name is out 10/16 via Barsuk and you can catch him live at the Showbox Market on 11/16. Check out the studio version as well as video of the song's first live performance below.
