TRAILER: "Rush" Debuts this Weekend
I love F1. We went to the 2008 Formula 1 GP du Canada. It was incredible. As a fan, we get up hellaearly to watch events 8+ hours ahead of us in Europe (DVR has helped in recent years). I loved it as a child because I wanted to be a pilot of jet fighter, but had terrible vision, and by 12 was too tall. These were jets on the ground (I'm still too tall for them...).
Now, Ron Howard - a SUPER successful director - revisits a time of Formula 1 simplicity. When drivers had little safety around them. The risk of death back then was shockingly higher than the last 20 years (since we lost Ayrton Senna). This film captures how that competition can end poorly for mangled cars and burning bodies.
It looks beautiful. I hope it doesn't rely too heavily on over contrasted CGI. Former Formula 1 driver turned pundit for SKY, Martin Brundle, saw the film and offered the following tweet:
Oh... hmmm, not sure what to make of this now...
