Seriously lucky. And... now he can honestly say "Did I tell you about the time I out-paddled a great white?". There was a closer call a few days ago near where I live in CA. A kayaker near Santa Cruz was thrown into the water when a great white took a nibble from the nose of his kayak. Folks in a nearby fishing boat rescued him. Thankfully. BTW, of course this incident didn't deter the local surfing community from hitting the waves in their seal-like black wet suits after the news broke. Cheers!
