Is This Donut Commercial Awesome? Racist? Terrible?

Nov 14th | categories: Local, TV

King Donuts... Ever since my bud Emily sent this to me, I've been trying to figure this shitstorm of a commercial. First, it's A REAL PLACE that serves donuts, teriyaki, and provides laundry service. Second, the jingle is incredible! Third, is this racial or racist?

I think I love it. I'm not sure what to do with my hands.

"King donut, teriyaki, laundromat" is forever in my head.

Being one of the owners of King Donuts, we were just having fun with this commercial! No intentions of offending others.

Well I think if it offends anyone, they are an idiot and just looking for something to be mad about.

As a frequent King Donut customer I find this commercial to be hilarious. But seriously, their donuts kick much booty.

I think it is a FUN commercial. Effective in getting the viewer to remember the business's name, what they offer and even the location! For a local TV ad, good job!!

I love King Donuts, the people there are so nice, always smiling. This is clearly humor!

Can't believe this question is even coming up. Can't we all just enjoy a funny commerical that get you thinking about the business. Keep up the great work and food!

I have heard this is the best donut place ever. I agree with most everyone here that it's ridiculous to call this racist. It is hilarious and more power to the owner and to awesome RVP for stirring things up a bit!

After seeing this I will go out of my way to not shop there. I live in the south end. And just because he's asian does NOT mean it's not racist. This ad helps perpetuate language mocking and gives white people permission to go ahead and do it. I can almost guarantee that teenage asian kids will suffer because of this.

One of my first memorable experiences when I moved to south Seattle was here. And by memorable, I mean I was made to feel at home, welcome and part of the community. I love the whole idea that this three in one place exists just across the street, and they ROCK. Do your laundry, get a donut. What's not to love? Anyone having issue with the commercials is just looking for something to be offended by. SMILE, PEOPLE.

As co-creator of this, shall we say, questionably poignant commercial, I'm not racist, I just like people to laugh at me like I'm racist. Is that "wrong?" If you need a new jingle, man, hit us up! Love your work.

Gregr, get yourself down to King Donuts, best donuts in the south end! Also, Is it racist to think their shop would make a great reality show? I would call it the 98118 :) and maybe the Ezell's family and Vince's family would be in it too. All family owned, south Seattle food family AND all very stereotypical. Let's keep this racist stuff going!

I don't think it's ridiculous to think of this commercial as racist. The "accent" is one a lot of people use to insult and degrade APIs. I'm sure the intentions weren't to mock a diverse group of people, but I agree with Don Farwell that this commercial gives white people permission to mock accents. I grew up a couple blocks away from Kubota gardens so I've been a customer for years and I will continue to be one because they're a family owned small business and their donuts are fantastic. I'm just a little disappointed in the execution of something that could have been a lot better for everyone.
