Are you ever walking through the subway, or the bus tunnel or something. And you see some homeless dude really breakin it down and you think to yourself, "man, if that guy had been dealt a different deck of cards, he'd really be something". Well that's essentially what happened with Willis Earl Beal who went from workign entry level jobs, homelessness, to putting out a collection of songs with Found Magazine in Chicago and ultimately signing to an imprint of XL records. He's definitely a weird dude but it's that kind of crazy charisma that makes an artist wonderful. He stopped by producer Nigel Godrich's for a Live From The Basement Session and it lands somehwere between beautifully hauniting, and totally spooky. Check it out below, it gets particularly good about 2 and a half minutes in.
