Boeing 767 Nearly Lands On An Airbus In Barcelona

Jul 07th | categories:

I'm not sure if this favors Boeing in the age long rivalry with Airbus, but we're from Seattle, so let's go ahead and say it does!

Coming in for a landing at Barcelona, this Boeing 767 almost took out an Airbus 340 that was meandering around the runway. I imagine it must have been pretty jarring for the passengers, and the pilot had to be sweating, it's not exactly a Cessna.

But I don'tknow... It looks to me like he had the landing... - Zach

I am an airline pilot. We practice this all the time in the simulator, and sometimes get to do it in real life at busy airports as the controllers try to maximize the number of take offs and landings and crossing of aircraft on the active runways. The controllers use their best guess to get the planes across, but sometimes, it just doesn't work out and the aircraft on final does a go-around. It is not an abrupt maneuver, but you would probably figure out that instead of descending for landing you are now accelerating and climbing. We would get on the PA and let everybody know what is going on. And you would get an extra lucky 15 minutes slipping the surly bonds of earth!
