Beer For Breakfast: Pale Ale Weekend!
It's no secret that we love hoppy beers* on Beer For Breakfast. The downside to hops, the IBU (International Bitterness Unit scale) goes higher and higher the tastier they get, and most people new to a hoppy beer have a tough time battling the bitterness. Our favorite hoppy beers are often IPA's - India Pale Ale - a style developed in England in the 19th century. It's tough to just dive in, so as my buddy Garett says, a Pale Ale is a great transition to something hoppier. Here's a couple to check out this weekend.
The Pike Brewing Co - Pike Pale (WA)
This beer is a slam dunk. It's not challenging, has a great, easy on the palate flavor, and at 5%, you could get away with drinking a few of these without the stumbliness that often follows!
Black Market Brewing Co - Aftermath (CA)
Served in a can - nice and cold - this beer makes a bit more challenging drink. It's all the things I love about a bigger IPA but without the bitterness. It's got a great citrus taste and a little more alcohol at just under 6%. Aftermath will be a little trickier to find, but if you can get your paws on a can (mini keg as we call it), you'll be rewarded with a crisp, tasty treat!
If you're gonna get after it with these beers this weekend, make sure to get home safely!
